diy-johns-journal:
So for now I’m just trying to measure everything and see how much material and stuff I need.
I made this! As a dummy!

So for the height I went off of the height of 3-ring mechanism I could find. Which is a silver, 1” (2.54 cm), round mechanism 9.5” [24.13 cm] in length. So the Journal is 10” [25.4 cm] [this might need to be made longer once I have the actual mechanism and material in hand] but there isn’t so much space between the mechanism end and the end of the Journal, so it isn’t entirely implausible that these are accurate measurements.

For the width, I took from a standard A5 journal. Which is 7.25” [18.415 cm], multiplied it by 2 to get both sides and added 2” [5.08 cm] for the spine, because there is a bit of space between the spine and the covers [and the BACK of the spine seems pretty thick, so I guessed 2”]

And then there is also the pocket at the front. Which I measured to be about 2” [5.08 cm] from the top, making the height of it 8” [20.32 cm]. For the width of it I guessed about 2”-2.5”, but I have to wait until I get the ribbons and pins to make an accurate measurement

The latch part is a bit harder to do without physical evidence. As far as I can tell, the part that fold in on itself [the front part] is ~3” [7.62 cm] in length. Plus 1-2” on the back [2.54-5.08 cm], which is harder to determine, because there isn’t any clear pictures of it. And then maybe 1” [2.54 cm] to make it around.
The holder part of the latch and the height of the latch is about 1” as far as I can tell. The holder is also 1.5” [3.81 cm] in from the outside edge of the cover.

There are probably better pictures illustrating these, but I have over 2000 caps and I wasn’t spending my afternoon finding the best one. I think these ones work quite well, actually.
If anyone thinks that I’ve made a mistake or have any questions, feel free to leave me a message :) any input is appreciated!
